For Salone del Mobile 2026, Aurélie Penneman takes Orac’s Art Deco narrative beyond the showroom and sets it adrift. Conceived as a refined cruise-inspired stand, the installation draws on Orac’s Belgian roots and its maritime home in Ostend, while nodding gently to the elegance of early twentieth-century travel. Inspired by the atmosphere of Agatha Christie’s “Death on the Nile” and the world of Belgian detective Hercule Poirot, the stand becomes a route through geometry, rhythm and imagination.

The exterior evokes the deck of a classic liner, complete with striped awning, deck chairs, porthole-like openings and a deep navy façade that immediately suggests movement, voyage and escape. Inside, visitors enter a layered Art Deco lounge where Orac’s architectural elements are used with Penneman’s characteristic precision and sense of play. Profiles appear in unexpected places, from inverted plinths in the bar area to stepped ceiling compositions inspired by Adolf Loos, transforming wall and ceiling finishes into elements of atmosphere rather than mere decoration.

Across the installation, the dialogue between Orac’s new Art Deco line and the softer contemporary collection by Roelfien Vos creates a graceful tension between structure and fluidity. A fumé mirror bar, open library shelving, beaded profiles that drift across the walls, upholstered pouffes and warm timber accents bring intimacy to the space, while rounded forms soften the precision of the architecture. Rather than a literal cruise ship, the stand becomes a world of suggestion: Belgian Art Deco with a maritime soul, theatrical yet restrained, elegant yet playful, and conceived as a journey from deck to lounge.
